Since the area you’re describing could be several different piercings in multiple locations AND the fact that everyone’s ears are built slightly differently, you are best off consulting with your piercer on what will fit you best. You can wear whatever will be long enough to accomodate the piercing, but not so large that it gets caught on things or applies pressure to your ear when you sleep on it. Check with your piercer so you can have them measure the piercing. Its much better to get a perfect fit than to buy several pieces of jewlery that just aren’t quite right.

Assuming your piercing is in the cartilage of your lower helix, the healing time begins at 2 months and goes on to “up to a year”. How long your personal healing takes depends on your body and how well you care for your piercing. Care includes proper cleaning, wearing well fitting jewlery, and not knocking your piercing around (even by accident). Expect your ear to seem healed within a couple of/few months. It may still be sensitive to bumps, pressure, and irritants (like hairspray, sweat, missing a cleaning) for a couple of months after that.

Be patient with your piercing and keep cleaning it like its new for several more weeks to come. Never give up on keeping it tidy and it will heal.
